AXIGEN Configuration Wizard displays strange characters

Description

How to disable unicode display in console for AXIGEN Configuration Wizard to display correctly all characters

Error cause

The operating system sets the console display encoding to UTF-8

Resolution

The AXIGEN Configuration Wizard application doesn't have support for displaying text and drawing ncurses windows using UTF-8 characters. That's why, in some distributions (SUSE/Novell, RedHat, Fedora Core, CentOS, Ubuntu) you must stop the unicode (UTF-8) display mode using the following command, part of the kbd package, before running the axigen-cfg-wizard application:


unicode_stop

After you finish running the AXIGEN Configuration Wizard, start again the unicode display mode by issuing:


unicode_start
