How to access AXIGEN collaboration features via iCal using KOrganizer

Article updated on 28 April, 2009

Description

This article describes how access to AXIGEN collaboration suite can be defined for KOrganizer.

Resolution

The newly introduced support for iCal, available with the AXIGEN 7.1 release, provides new methods for accessing the collaboration facilities that are built-in into AXIGEN.

For a full understanding on the iCal support facilities, we recommend on first accessing the following KB article, alongside our related online documentation section.

First thing to do is to make sure that you have enabled the iCal support for your Axigen server via Webadmin -> Services -> Webmail -> Webmail Options section. Here you have to check the two options:

Enable Calendar (ICS) access through iCal/HTTP
and
Enable Free/Busy (IFB) access through iCal/HTTP

For this article we will use example.org as our local organization with the account <user1@example.org>.

Opening user default folders

You can open your default Axigen Calendar folder using the below steps:

Open your KOrganizer and right-click in the "Calendar" section (usually located in the left-down side of your KOrganizer screen) and click "Add"

From the new "Resource configuration" window, select the required type for opening your calendar, "Calendar in Remote File" and click "Ok"

In the configuration window set a name (ex: MyAxigenCal), and enter the location needed to access your Calendar. In our example this would be:

     http://example.org/ical/main.ics
or using the server ip address:
     http://192.168.30.148/ical/main.ics

NOTE: the above URL part: http://example.org corresponds to the address used to access the Axigen Webmail interface. More details on how to set the proper URL's can be found in the documentation, mentioned as reference in the beginning of this article.

As you will require the synchronizing the changes made via KOrganizer to the Webmail Calendar, enter the same URL in both of the Resource settings -> "Download from" and "Upload to" fields. After this set your desired "Automatic Reload" and "Automatic Save" settings and click "Ok".

You will be prompted for the Username and password of the Axigen account for which you wish to access the Calendar. Enter the required login details and click "Ok".

This will result in the synchronization between the newly created KOrganizer calendar (MyAxigenCal) and the Axigen account's Calendar folder.

Open other user's shared Calendar folder

To open the other user's calendar, first make sure that the respective user has set the proper permissions for sharing it's calendar (at least Viewer permissions must be granted by user2 for user1 in order for user1 to be able to access user2's Calendar). If this condition is met then simply add another Calendar to your KOrganizer configuration, but this time use, for the Resource settings -> "Download from" and "Upload to" fields, the proper URL:

http://example.org/ical/~user2/folder/Calendar.ics

Also if you wish to open another specific calendar (other than the DEFAULT Calendar folder for an Axigen account), the corresponding URL's in the new KOrganizer Calendar -> Calendar in Remote File -> Resource Configuration must be used.

Examples:
1) For a calendar folder located in the account's root with the name PersonalCal you can access it by using:

http://example.org/ical/folder/PersonalCal.ics

2) To access a specific calendar owned by another user, and that Calendar is located in the Inbox folder, use:

http://example.org/ical/~user2/folder/Inbox/OtherPersonalCal.ics

Applies to

Releases: Mail Server 7.1.X
