Article updated on 02 September, 2009
Description
This article describes how to make use of ActiveSync based Push e-mail on Blackberry devices via NotifySync.
Resolution
1. Preamble:Starting with release version 7.1.2 of AXIGEN Mail Server, support for the NotifySync client has been introduced, allowing Blackberry users to synchronize these devices with their AXIGEN e-mail accounts. Synchronizing data in this manner is available for a range of data types:
- Email messages
- Tasks
- Calendar
- Contacts
2. Integration prerequisites:For making use of this mechanism for synchronization purposes you will need:
- AXIGEN Mail Server version >= 7.1.2
- ActiveSync support available within AXIGEN
- Activating the ActiveSync service, as described in the KB article at http://www.axigen.com/kb/show/277
- NotifySync version >= 4.6
3. Configuring the NotifySync client:In order to access your AXIGEN e-mail account, you a need to define a number attributes within NotifySync.
In our following example, we will consider the following details:
Account name: jdoe
Domain name: example.org
As an Email address this is translated into: jdoe@example.org
Server Address: example.email.server
NOTES:
- It is recommended to first create a backup over important data (Emails / Calendar events / Tasks / Contacts)
- After finishing the registration process, you will be prompted that the selected PIM data will override any local stored information. If you do not want some details to be overwritten, you should select "No" and disable the data type you do not want to synchronize (Example: Tasks). Any existing local data (Emails / Contacts / Tasks / Calendar events) that are marked for synchronization, will be deleted from the device.
After accessing the NotifySync application, select the
Register section and define the required attributes:
License keyServer address. Example: example.email.server
Username. Example: jdoe
Password Example: my_secret_password
Domain Example: example.org
Use SSL. Enable this only if you have a SSL enabled listener for the AXIGEN WebMail service, otherwise disable it
