    Newbie: configuration problem

I have a wordpress installation on a localhost. I cannot send mail. I set up Axigen as my mail server. Here is an excerpt from the log file:

I'm not able to send mail from the box. It is a windows machine but not running IIS which is why I installed Axigen. Using Apache for web server.

Everything else works for me - just cannot send mails necessary to run the site.

    Hello Linda,

The lines you have posted are related to a "dummy" message used by WebAdmin to test the filters availability.

Please check the logs after you have sent a message from the WP instance.

My recommendation is to always use authenticated sessions, meaning you will use Other SMTP when configuring WP Mail SMTP settings.
For this it will be best to create a dedicated user for WP and configure it accordingly (as explained here)
    • SMTP Host - the hostname for your SMTP server (in your case 127.0.0.1 should be fine)
    • SMTP Port - the port your server works on (in your case 25 should be fine or, better, 587 / 465 if you have such listeners )
    • Encryption - if you have SSL/TLS encryption available for that hostname, select it here (for 465 listeners as it is full SSL)
    • Auto TLS - if your server supports TLS encryption, enable this option (for 25 or 587 as it should advertise StartTLS)
    • Authentication - check if your SMTP server requires authentication (yes - the server should be configured to relay messages only for authenticated users)
    • Username - the username for your SMTP server (the account created for WP)
    • Password - the password for your SMTP server (its password)
    HTH,
    Ioan
