Auto Migration Failure Default Domain

I am testing Axigen free server trial for testing. The server is up and running and I am trying to test the automigration feature from a local mail server.
Both the Axigen server and my old mail server are on the same LAN and each can talk to one another, there are no firewall rules blocking anything.

I have configured the automigration and enabled it for the domain in question and tested telnet to the SMTP and IMAP ports from the Axigen server to the other mail server. However I consistently get authentication failure even though testing the same credentials on the old mail server works.

Looking through the logs of Axigen I see the error here:

2025-10-23 13:47:43 +0200 02 mail MAILBOXAPI:00000019: Cannot create user 'marcus' for migration because automigration is disabled on account class '(domainDefault)' 2025-10-23 13:47:43 +0200 02 mail MAILBOXAPI:00000019: Authentication error for user 'marcus@domain.com': Account not found locally

I then added another domain and made it my primary, thinking that the error is saying you can migrate to your primary domain name, which is strange but so be it. I enabled the fake domain and made it my primary and tried again, however I received the same error again.

I then added ANOTHER domain that is real and did NOT make it my primary to see if I could migrate from that account, but I got the exact same error.

Any ideas?

PS. The ‘darkmode’ on this forum is not functioning correctly. A lot of text is invisible and cannot be seen unless highlighted.

Figured it out myself for anyone else encountering same issue.
This seemed to be missing from the official documentation, or I may have missed it.
1)Make sure your domain is added in DOMAINS & ACCOUNTS → Manage Domains

2)Once the domain is added edit the domain by clicking the pencil icon, we are still in the menu DOMAIN & ACCOUNTS → MANAGE DOMAINS
3)Once you are editing the domain, select ACCOUNT DEFAULTS in the top toolbar.
4)Scroll down to AUTO MIGRATION and check the box “Enable automatic migration for this domain” (this seems redundant but apparently its required).

5)Now on the main menu on the left, go to AUTOMATIC MIGRATION

6)Enable automatic migration, under MIGRATION STATUS, for your respective domain

7)Configure your domain accordingly.

7.1)Personally speaking, when I configured with SSL ports (993,465) it failed, saying that it did not trust the CA certificate, even though its a Letsencrypt certificate. No problem though, just switch to Non-ssl, ports 25 and 143.
8) Ensure on your old mailserver that plaintext authentication is allowed on your IMAP service, I used dovecot, so I simply had to change the configuration and restart dovecot and this worked.
9)If using NON-SSL connection (443,25) ensure you are on the same LAN, I highly discourage this if you are doing it via the WAN (internet).
