BUG: If BitDefender licence expires, no mail is delivered

Soon after I set up my Axigen server, I paid for a perpetual licence and a years-worth of AV etc.
A few days ago, the AV licence expired, and I have not renewed it yet.

I noticed that I wasn’t receiving my usual alerts, and noticed loads of PROCESSING ERROR messages in the logs due to BitDefender.
The service was not running (probably because my licence has expired), but was still enabled in the GUI.
Apart from the licence expiry warning at the top of the admin GUI, there was no mention of mail being denied delivery.

I disabled BitDefender under the "AntiVirus & AntiSpam* section, and forced a retry of the queue, and all my missing emails were delivered.

Please could this functionality be changed, as there is nothing that says this will happen if a licence expires, and no errors saying that mail is queued due to BitDefender, which is very frustrating.

In the current situation, I’m not inclined to renew my AV licence if mail delivery is going to be restricted if the process fails.

Hello,

In our opinion this is not a bug but a simple mechanism to avoid receiving spam/malware if your AS/AV license expired without you knowing about.

As an admin I will definitely monitor* at least the mail queue so I could be alerted** by an abnormal situation like the one mentioned by you.

* with external systems like Zabix / Grafana or even local custom scripts
** preferable using a different messaging channel than email)

Nevertheless we are encouraging our customers and partners to influence Axigen’s product evolution, as well as to measure the importance and popularity of specific requests among our customers, via the Axigen Product Community which allows you to post new feature requests, as well as to vote on existing ones.

We strongly believe in this method, which is why we’ve promoted it to become the “de facto” way to request new features.

Thank you for your understanding,
