POP3 service not answering requests or not started

I am working with a brand new test server. I have not put this server in service yet but I will need this server to support POP3.

POP3 service is not enabled by default. I enabled it by tapping the ‘start’ button in the web admin, and it indicates the service started.

However I do not see any evidence it is answering incoming connections. Tested this with telnet. Also tested another service that way (SMTP on port 25) and that is answering requests fine.

Is there something I am missing here? I checked the local Ubuntu firewall provided on the official Axigen VM appliance image I am using with “ufw status” and it appears to already have a rule to allow incoming traffic on port 110.

Anything else I need to do here? Is it possible that it is because it is only accepting connections for encrypted POP3 on port 995 despite a firewall rule having been auto-added for port 110?

Thanks

Hello @raid5

By default, the POP3 listeners are not added during the onboarding process. To use POP3, you must add the desired listeners by navigating to WebAdmin → Services → POP3 and clicking the “Add listener” button in the Listener section and after that enable the service.

Note that the default ports for POP3 are 110 for nonSSL and 995 for SSL.

A list with all the available option in POP3 configuration are available in Axigen documentation at: POP3 | Axigen Documentation
