Could you please tell me if it is possible to change the Primary Domain on a working system? Currently, my main domain is rarato.com, and totora.com is added as an alias. Is it safe to make totora.com the primary domain on the active system and keep rarato.com as an alias?
Hello Viktor,
Yes, this is definitely possible.
To make this change, log in to WebAdmin and navigate to Global Settings > General. Change the Primary Domain setting to None (or any string that does not match one of your hosted domains) and click Save Configuration.
Once this is done, your Axigen server will no longer have a designated Primary Domain. You can then leave it as is or select a different hosted domain to act as the primary.
Note: A Primary Domain is typically used when you want to allow users to log in using only their username (e.g.,
john.doe) instead of their full email address.
Security Recommendation: We generally recommend not designating a Primary Domain. Requiring the full email address for login makes account harvesting and brute-force password attacks significantly more difficult for external actors to execute successfully.
Later edit: coming back here after you made the changes to the original post
No, you could not enter an alias as Primary Domain. The Primary Domain should be set as the “domain name”.
On the other hand, If you like to switch, on a particular domain, between the existing “domain name” and one of its aliases - yes, this is possible.
Just remove the alias, change the domain name to that alias, add the older domain name as alias and you are done.
HTH,
Ioan
Thanks for your help. I'll try.
