Message filters&Pop3

After setting up some message filters to move incoming mail to subfolders in INBOX they no longer appear in POP3 email client. Is it WAD?

Hello,

POP3 clients are downloading messages only from Inbox so, in case you are moving incoming messages in other folders under Inbox those messages became “invisible”.

Here is the KB that explains how to connect your mail client to your Spam folder.

Tried it but doesn’t seem to work or it only works for Root folders?

Hello,

It should work for other folders as well - all you have to do is to supply the full path and avoid using spaces in your folder structure.

For example in order to access folder test-pop3 from the Inbox of user.part@domain.tld account you should login with a username like:

user.part+inbox/test-pop3@domain.tld

In case you still encounter problems please set POP3 service with Protocol Communication log level and share with us the relevant log lines.

Doesn’t recognize account name.

Log onto incoming mail server (POP3): Your e-mail server rejected your login. Verify your user name and password in your account properties. Under Tools, click E-mail accounts. The server responded: -ERR Wrong username/password pair

Using Axigen Mail Server version 10.1.5.18.0

Hello,

This is not the Axigen log but the mail client log. Please check your Axigen log and share it with us.

There is nothing to share it is not my server. What I have to ask provider so they enable the POP3 access to subfolders?

Hello,

As mentioned before POP3 protocol is not aware of the account folder tree.

When you are logging via POP3 protocol with your email account (for example user.001@domain.tld) your mail client will receive data related to INBOX folder.

If you are logging with a special crafted username (for example user.001+inbox/my-special-folder@domain.tld) your mail client will receive data related to INBOX/my-special-folder (assuming this folder exists).

This is a limitation of POP3 protocol and nothing could be done to change this behaviour.

Therefor, in case you have a sub-folder called my-special-folder under your account INBOX, AND there are some messages there, AND after configuring your mail client to login via POP3 with the special crafted username, and you still have problem my suggestions are:

1/ contact your mail provider support team asking why is not working (you may share with them this thread)
2/ switch from the obsolete POP3 protocol to IMAP
3/ use webmail interface
4/ take a break , relax and re-check all information again

Have a nice day,
Ioan

Tried different combinations and it doesn’t seem to work. Sent mail provider a support request so awaiting answer. Does Axigen Mail Server version 10.1.5.18.0 have this feature enabled by default?

Hello,

As mentioned before there is nothing to enable - it should work by default.
