Setting up an POP3 Proxy

This article describes how to enable and configure the POP3 proxy service.

Solution

NOTE: The POP3 proxy service is only available for licenses that include clustering support.

Before enabling the service, certain configuration steps are required. The service listener should be set to use port 110 and the normal POP3 service should be disabled. In addition, a user map must be selected in the clustering configuration settings to enable the proxy service to route connections.

Set up proxy routing information:

1. Log into the webadmin interface.

2. Go to the "Clustering" context and select "Clustering Setup" from the list.

3. On the "Routing and Authentication" tab, go to the "Routing" section.

4. Select the user map to use for the proxy services from the "User Map" drop-down list.

5. Enter the "POP3 request" fall-back IP and port values.

NOTE: These fall-back options are used if the proxy fails to match the incoming request information.

Configure the service:

6. Go to the "Clustering" context and select "POP3 Proxy" from the list.

7. In the "Listeners" section, click the "Edit" button next to the service listener.

8. Change the listener port from its current value to "110", and save the configuration using the "Save Configuration" button.

9. In the "Encryption and Authentication" section, enable the "Perform authentication on proxy" if you require it.

10. Click the "Save Configuration" button to make your settings permanent.

Enable the service:

11. In the "Services" context go to the "Services Management" page.

12. Click the "Stop" button next to the POP3 service, if it is enabled.

13. Click the "Start" or "Restart" button next to the POP3 Proxy service.
