AXIGEN releases mail server version 1.2

Bucharest, May 16 2006 – AXIGEN Mail Server, the messaging solution developed by Gecad Technologies, has now reached version 1.2. This new release brings major functionality improvements, regarding mainly mail message filtering and management. New features add to configuration flexibility and scalability and increase communication security in any company using AXIGEN.
  • New features add security and flexibility to the product: innovating mail filtering system and mail body HTML generator

  • New partners from Central America, Germany, France, Switzerland, Russia and the Philippines join the AXIGEN distribution network

Innovative Filtering System
AXIGEN ensures mail filtering (like AntiVirus, Antispam, content filtering, etc) through a unique system that allows you to define specific filter sets at server level, domain level and even user level. Also, differentiated filtering can be applied to incoming and outgoing mail traffic, depending on your business scenario and requirements.

Defining different filter sets for domains can be an important benefit for Hosting Service Providers or IT departments managing several networks and domains, as they can define several security levels, adapted to the confidentiality level of messages stored on the server (for instance, a filter can be used to forward copies of emails received from a business partner to a group of users in the Sales department)

Differentiated filter sets for incoming and outgoing traffic can prove to be an effective anti-SPAM tool: a company may set high AntiSpam scores for incoming traffic to avoid unsolicited mails and set even higher scores for outgoing traffic, so that no email could be labeled by mistake as SPAM when at the receiver.

AXIGEN cleans HTML format messages automatically
A HTML Generator is included in the new AXIGEN version to remove unsafe code from emails sent in HTML format. As we all know, a large part of the emails we receive these days are HTML format messages, with various text formatting (colored or bold text, pictures, etc). The HTML code behind the message may include, besides legitimate content, additional scripts posing security threats. AXIGEN filters automatically all emails using the HTML Generator and allows only the clean content. Note though that this Generator does not do the job of an AntiVirus product, therefore it is important to use it in conjunction with an Antivirus application.

Clear and consistent declaration of the Mail Server name and IP address
Another new function available in AXIGEN Mail Server version 1.2 allows for consistent declaration of the server IP address and name. Thus, if an IT department manages two domains belonging two different companies/departments situated in different networks (with different IP addresses), email sent from these domains will advertise IPs and machine names representatives of the respective company / department. Also, if one of these companies is banned by a blacklist, the problem remains isolated within that company, without affecting the other. This feature is particularly useful for Hosting Providers and administrators managing many networks.

Easy and flexible mail service configuration, even at user level
Additionally, AXIGEN 1.2 allows you to choose whether to activate certain AXIGEN services (SMTP, POP, IMAP or Webmail) not only for the entire server, but also for specific domains and even specific users. Differentiated mail service access for users may bring both security and server functioning benefits (in terms of server load). For instance, in a company you can allow employees working from the office to access mail through IMAP and employees working remotely to retrieve mail through POP or Webmail.

Automated, secure migration
An automated migration tool is also available in the new AXIGEN kit, allowing easy, on the fly migration for accounts and emails through the IMAP protocol. The system administrator doesn’t have to intervene at any stage of the process and user information is kept confidential. With the automatic migration tool, system administrators can set the system to migrate all accounts, passwords and emails effortless and transparently to the end user.

"The new version of AXIGEN messaging solution enables companies to manage their email traffic more effectively while ensuring a high level of security for the company network" says Oana Bornaz, AXIGEN CEO.

Launched last fall, AXIGEN has already set up a world wide distribution network, including 20 partners from Central America, Germany, France, Switzerland, Russia and the Philippines. AXIGEN Mail Server now powers email traffic in over 300,000 mailboxes.

Currently, AXIGEN Mail Server works on Linux and FreeBSD platforms, while new releases for Windows and Mac OS are planned for later this year.

The development of AXIGEN Mail Server involved a 2 million Euro initial investment. “We have invested an extra 500,000 Euro in product and distribution network development since the product launch and plan to invest another 600,000 by the end of the year.” adds Oana Bornaz.
